Deloris Mosier

Deloris M. Mosier, 79, of Waukon, Iowa, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Deloris Mae was born December 23, 1926, in the Forest Mills area of rural Postville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles Jr. and Florence (Roffman) Ewing. Deloris was baptized at the Forest Mills EUB Church and attended the Maple Dale rural school.

November 12, 1949, she married Karl Burton Mosier at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Waukon. Deloris had a long career in healthcare as a nurse's aid. She started at age 16 when she worked at the Hall Hospital in Waukon. Later she spent many years at Veterans Memorial Hospital before finishing her work at Makee Manor in rural Waukon. Following her retirement in 1988 she spent much of her time caring for her husband in his ill health.

Deloris had a passion for growing flowers. Her outdoor roses and indoor African violets were particular favorites of hers. She did crochet and embroidery work and enjoyed watching public television. Deloris also liked country music and enjoyed several bus tours to Branson, Mo., and Nashville, Tenn. Recently she had spent a good deal of time going to the Waukon Inn for coffee and meals and visits with several of her family members.

Survivors include two sisters, Phyllis Welch and Kay (Darrell) Snitker, both of Waukon; and three sisters-in-law, Marcella Ewing of Vancouver, Wash., and Darlene "Boots" Ewing and Anna Marie Ewing, both of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Karl, who died in 1990; her son Gregory, who died in 2005; three brothers, John, William "Bill", and Stan Ewing; a brother-in-law, Ambrose Welch; and a grand nephew, Bryce David.

Casketbearers are Tom, Tim, and Charles Welch, Darren and Dustan Snitker, Frank Armstead, LouAnn Bucheit, and Danny Ewing.
