Virgil Winke
Virgil D. Winke, age 70, of Janesville, Wis., died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Premier Rehab and Skilled Nursing. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 3, 2006, at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard Lehmann officiating. Interment was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church. Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Virgil was born in Waukon, Iowa, January 18, 1936, the son of Elmer and Mabel (Snitker) Winke. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1954 and married Shirley M. Gramlich June 3, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon.
Virgil had been a Janesville resident since 1957, and had been employed by Dean Foods, Chemung, Ill., for 28 years retiring in November of 1999. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, a former Boy Scout Leader, and an avid bowler. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts, and loved to fish, hunt, garden, and spend time with his grandkids.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Shirley; three children: Mark (Sonia) Winke, David (Linda) Winke, and Bonnie (Darrel) Teubert, all of Janesville; seven grandchildren, Alyss, Bridget, and Correy Winke, Eric John Woods, Nikolaus Adam Winke, Tiffany Marie, and Adam Dean Teubert; three great-grandchildren with a fourth due in October; a brother, Darwin (Donna) Winke of Elkader, Iowa; and an aunt, Leona Duvel of Waukon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.
