A grave side service for Opal Vivian Klinger will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 2:00 P. M. at the Postville Cemetery. The Reverend Gary Catterson will officiate.
Opal was born in Postville on January 14, 1908 and passed away peacefully in Tacoma, WA on March 7, 2004, at the age of ninety-six. She was the daughter of Frank and Edith (nee Miller) Bellows and lived in Postville until age eleven when the family moved to Dubuque. In 1925 she graduated from high school in the first class of the then new Senior High School. The following year she married Fred H. Klinger. Their first daughter was born in Dubuque, and in 1930 the young family moved to Chicago, IL, where a son and second daughter were born.
For most of her working life Opal was a waitress, from which she retired in 1973. In 1975 she moved back to Postville to help with the care of her parents, who had returned from Dubuque, and who were then able to enjoy the remainder of their lives in the comfort of their own home.
In 1989 Opal underwent surgery for cancer, after which she moved to Orange, CA to convalesce under the care of her eldest daughter and son-in-law. Then in 1991 she moved to Tacoma, WA where her son resided and where she has lived for the past several years. Opal dedicated her life to her children. Their well-being was always her priority.
We who knew her best love her deeply and shall ever cherish the many beautiful memories she's given us. Survivors include her numerous great-grandchildren, ten grandchildren, and her three children: Mrs. Sam (Maxine) Vitale of Tacoma, WA; Jerry Klinger of Tacoma, WA; and Lois Carter of Chicago, IL. Opal was baptized in and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Local arrangements are by Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa.
