Lloyd V. Clark of Waukon died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.
Lloyd Virgil Clark was born on Feb. 18, 1923 on the rural Forest Mills, Iowa farm of his parents, Floyd and Alice (Winter) Clark. He was baptized and confirmed at the Forest Mills EUB Church and attended Forest Mills School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1940. On August 10, 1947 he married Marilyn Jean Miller at the Monona Methodist Church. He farmed with his father until purchasing the farm in 1958, and was a partner with his brother, Keith, and nephew, Bill Clark, in Waukon Implement & Service from 1975 until 1979.
Lloyd was chosen as Allamakee County's first "Distinguished Dairyman" in 1965. In 1995, he was named Allamakee County Pioneer Dairyman. For 25 years, he was active in local, area, state and national dairy organizations: secretary-treasurer and vice president of the Allamakee-Clayton Holstein Association; president of Farmers Waukon Cooperative Creamery of Waukon for 10 years; vice-president of Meadowland Dairy; president of Preston Marketing Cooperative of Preston, Minn.; secretary and then treasurer of Iowa State Dairy Association; director of National Milk Producers Federation for 15 years; president of the township school board until school reorganization; and director of the Waukon State Bank from 1970-78. He was a charter member and president of the Allamakee County Historical Society. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and served on many administrative boards. He served on the Veterans Memorial Hospital Health Care Foundation from 1983-1998 and served on the county election board for over forty years. Lloyd also was a member of the Decorah Coin Club and Farm Bureau.
Lloyd enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and collecting antiques, coins and postcards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family..
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marilyn, a brother, Keith and two sisters, Roberta McShane and Mary Swenson. Survivors include four daughters, Jane (Larry) Lamborn of Luana, Nancy (Larry) Straate of Waukon, Dianne (Randy) Rissman of Postville and Carolyn Clark of Dubuque; a brother-in-law Kermit Miller of Postville; eleven grandchildren who called him grandpa and seven great-grandchildren; a sister Dora (Everett) Bollman of Luana; a sister-in-law, Hope Clark of Waukon; a brother-in-law, Verdon Swenson of Postville and several nieces and nephews.
Casketbearers are Bill Clark, Jim Garrett, Lanny and Matt Marting, Adam Quandahl, Rick Miller, John Simmons and Bob Bettle.
