Albert Keenan

Albert J. Keenan, 63, Waukon, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at Veterans Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6, at St. Mary's Lycurgus, with Father Joe Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, rural Waukon. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Albert Joseph was born April 27, 1943, in Waukon, the son of Matthew and Marcella (Hennessey) Keenan.

Albert and Carol Erickson were united in marriage January 25, 1997, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon.

Albert was retired from 3M, and had a great love for his Irish heritage, his family, and the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings. He had a great love for life itself and enjoyed baseball, camping, fishing, golf, and old cars. He was a parish council member and money counter for St. Patrick's, and a very faithful Catholic and very proud man. He also loved his Democratic Party and used to be very active in the organization. He served as a bingo caller as well.

Survivors include four step-children, Larry (Joy) Lange of rural Waukon, Tim (Tammie) Lange of rural New Albin, Julie (Phil) Kleese of Cedar Rapids, and Kimberely Sheperd of Laramie, Wyo.; nine step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; four siblings, Leo (Kathleen) Keenan of McGregor, Jim (Sandra) Keenan of Lansing, Margret (Russ) O'Donnell of Elma, Iowa, and Rita (Jim) Berry of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Maureen Keenan of Waukon and Betty Keenan of Viroqua, Wis.; and a brother-in-law, Leo (Mary) Manning of Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dixie Lee Keenan; his parents, Matthew and Marcella Keenan; two sisters, Mary Theresa and Dorthy May Manning; two brothers, Patrick Matthew Keenan and Lawrence William Keenan; his father-in-law, Albert Erickson Jr.; and three nieces and two nephews.

Honorary casketbearers were his 42 nieces and nephews and his God children. Casketbearers were Jan Sweeney, Brian Houlihan, John Balik, Arvid Hatlan, Bob Heimer, Kermit Klees, and Jack Sweeney.
