Richard G. Bieber, 61, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in his home after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Zion United Church of Christ, by the Rev. Richard Eick. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home, Waukon.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; his mother, Luella; two sons, George and wife Jamie and Edward and wife Amy; two grandchildren, Lexie and Nicholas; three brothers, Peter and wife Lillian, Willard and wife Marsha and James and wife Sue; an aunt, Louise Bieber; and an uncle, Maynard Leppert, all of Waukon.

Richard was born March 25, 1937, in Waukon, the sone of Peter W. And Luella Leppert Bieber. He graduated from Waukon High in 1956. He served two years in the Army, spending time in Germany and Switzerland. Later he continued as an instructor for the Army Reserve. He married Joan Mork on July 16, 1960, in Monona Methodist Church, Monona. He farmed in Makee and Union Prairie Township of Allamakee County all his life, raising registered Angus beef and operating a farrow to finish hog operation.

Richard was very active in Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, where he served on the council, missions committee, was the bell ringer and sang in the choir. He had been active in the Republican Party and served as precinct chairman of Makee Township, and was serving on the Republican Central Committee for the First Ward in Waukon. He had attended many county, district and state Republican conventions. He had served as chairman and worked for many Republican candidates, including serving on Tom Tauke’s Farm Advisory Council, serving on the Allamakee County Farm Bureau Executive Board for 20 years, serving two different terms as Farm Bureau president, plus serving as director at large for the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Dick had received the Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award for many years of dedication and service to the Farm Bureau. He was the director of the Northeast Iowa Angus Association and a member of the Iowa Angus Association.
