Lila Langland

Lila A. Langland, 81, of Waukon, Iowa, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11 at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with Pastor Susan Debner officiating. Burial was in Glenwood East Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Lila Alvera was born July 28, 1924, on her parents' farm in rural Waukon, the daughter of Albert and Luella (Blegen) Hagen. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Lila attended Lee country school and graduated from Waukon High School.

November 17, 1951, she married Richard Alexander Langland in Elgin, Ill. Lila and Richard farmed in Glenwood Township where she enjoyed taking care of the chickens and raising flowers and vegetables in her garden.

Lila was a lifetime member of Glenwood Lutheran Church and its ladies circles. She played the piano and also sang for church services, weddings, and funerals for several years. Lila enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to cook and bake for them. She liked to follow her grandchildren’s activities. She especially liked to listen to their basketball games on the radio and read about them in the newspaper.

Survivors include four children, Charlene (John) Loven of Decorah, Iowa, Cheryl (Brad) Freilinger of Monona, Iowa, and Rick Langland and Kathy Langland, both of Waukon; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, who died in 1998; and three brothers, Marlin and Norval Hagen and an infant brother.

Honorary casketbearers were Vernon and Helen Olson, Willard and Eloise Orvella, Philip Storla, Viola Ellingson, Edna Prestsater, Kenny and Carol Nesvik, Wayne and Mary Lou Leidahl, Dick and Ruth McKernan, and Roger and Doris Darrington.

Casketbearers were Danny Leidahl, John Loven, Kenny Hougen, Brad Freilinger, Brent Mohs, and Chuck Langland.
