Mrs. Sarah Jane (Hahn) Sires, was born in Brookings County, South Dakota, in 1886, and died at her home in New Albin, Sunday, November 3, 1935, at the age of 49 years, 9 months and 26 days.
In her early girlhood days she came to Iowa with her parents where she grew to womanhood. In the year 1906 she was united in marriage to James Grant Sires of Union Township. After their marriage they resided on the farm of the groom's father for several years, then moving to Dorchester and later to New Albin, which has been her home until her death.
She was a woman who took great pride in her home. Her life was given to the care and welfare of her family until about two years ago, when she became unable to do anymore. Since that time all that medical aid could do was done, but to no avail. During her sickness much of her time was spent in reading her Bible and she became a strong believer in the saving power of Jesus Christ, her Savior.
Confessing, believing, receiving she departed this life for the life to come.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, James, and children, Ruby, Eleanor "Mae" (Mrs. Joe Crowley), Alvin "Bud", Raymond "Tat", Forrest "Frosty", Genevieve "Jenny" and Cleon, all of New Albin, a grandson, Donald Sires, of New Albin, her aged mother, Mrs. John (Margaret) Hahn, brother, Earl Hahn, and sister, Mrs. Dan (Anna) Sires of Dorchester, sister, Mrs. Russel (Barbara) Lane of Waukon, sister, Mrs. Fred (Elizabeth) Smith of La Crosse, WI, sister, Mrs. Ray (Cora) Bulman of Leeds, ND, and brother, Lee of Imperial, CA, and a host of other relatives and friends. One son, Donald, preceded her in death.
The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in New Albin at 1:30pm Tuesday, conducted by Rev. R.L. Van Nice of Waukon and Rev. Howard Palmer, local pastor, with burial in the English Bench cemetery. Several selections were rendered by the M.E. choir, and the funeral was largely attended. The pallbearers were Albert Meyer, Dan Kelly, T.A. Warren, John Beardmore, Gus Welper and Eben Beardmore.
