James Bloxham

James E. Bloxham, 76, died Sunday, September 15, 1996 at his home in Waukon.

He was born March 30, 1920 in rural Postville to Clarence and Delaney (Ruckhaber) Bloxham. Jim received his education in the Hardin School, rural Luana. He worked as a farmhand before entering the service in 1941. During World War II, he served as a rifleman in the 20th Infantry Division in New Guinea and Philippines. He earned the Bronze Service Arrowhead, American Defense Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

After being discharged from the Army in 1945, he worked for Allamakee County for 3 years repairing bridges.

February 22, 1947 Jim married Norma Johnson at the First Presbyterian parsonage in Waukon.

For 19 years, Jim then worked for Waukon Lumber and later United Building Center in Waukon. He was custodian at the junior high in Waukon.

Jim was a lifetime Allamakee County resident, a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as custodian for 7 years after he retired, and the Waukon V.F.W.

Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Patricia Kerndt, Shirley (Robert) Schulze and Sheryl (Dan) Bieber, and a son Randy (Julie) Bloxham, all of Waukon.

Also surviving are 2 sisters, Betty (Eugene) May of Monmouth, OR, and Lorna (George) Miller of Ely; 3 brothers, Keith (Ruth) Bloxham of Waukon, Ronald (Marilyn) Bloxham of Cedar Rapids, and Richard (Edith) Bloxham of Waukon; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Charles who was killed in WWII.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, September 18 at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Larry Olson conducted the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with graveside military services by Waukon veterans. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Rupert Caballero, Dennis Mahr, Kenneth Ewing, Dennis Dahlstrom, Richard Winke and Larry Litterer.

Honorary bearers were Jim's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
