August Kugel Passes On Last Thursday.

Johann Carl August Kugel passed away at his home in Postville on Thursday, February 4, 1932, aged 73 years and 23 days.

He was born in Germany in Gross-Fahlenwerder in Prussia on January 11, 1859. His parents were Gottlieb and Julia Kugel (nee Bergerler), and he was the second youngest in a family of nine children.

On March 8, 1876, he emigrated to America, arriving at Lansing, Iowa, on March 28.

On February 21, 1884, he was married to Maria Ziemann, and to this union six children were born, one of which, a son,, Freddie, died in early childhood.

Besides His widow he leaves to mourn his departure the surviving children, Mrs Emilie Borcherding of Guttenberg, William Kugel of Luana, Mrs. Amy Renne of Cedar Rapids and Louise and Harvey at home; also five grandchildren and one brother, Fred Kugel of Waukon.

He was a prosperous Grand Meadow township farmer for 35 years, and in 1919 he retired from active farming and moved to Postville, which has been the family home since.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and friend, unassuming and sympathetic, and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and for a time was a member of the church council.

The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city at two o'clock on Monday afternoon, February 8th, Dr. R. B. Garten officiating. Interment in Grand Meadow cemetery.
