Funeral services were held Monday, July 14 for Guy O'Neill Hamm of Sherrill, Iowa, age 72, who died Friday, July 11, 1997 at his home. Pastor Melissa Warren conducted the 1 p.m. services at Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona, with military rites accorded by Harpers Ferry American Legion Post #722. Casket bearers were Larry Erickson, Jeff Hamm, Steve Hamm, Shannon Hamm, Chad Nichols, and Chris Bruce. Honorary bearers were Jim Knight, Les Erickson, Carl Jones, Bob Benzing, Marvel Redalen, and Richard Schlitter.

Guy was born December 9, 1924 in Waterville, Iowa to Jerry M. and Katie C. (Kennedy) Hamm. During World War II, Guy served in the United States Army for three years. On July 15, 1950 he married Ruth Jones in Waukon, Iowa. Guy worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 31 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Harpers Ferry American Legion Post #722 and UAW Local 94.

Preceding him in death were 3 brothers, Lawrence Hamm, Harmon Hamm, and one in infancy, and a sister, Vera Nichols.

Surviving are his wife, 4 daughters, Colleen Weber of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, Debra Knight of Tacoma, Washington, Denise (Chris) Stern of Dubuque, Iowa and Trudy (Takeye) Takeste of Ventura, California; 1 son, Loren (Alice) Hamm of Waterville, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, and 1 great-grandson; 2 sisters, Helen (Carlton) Jones of Waukon, Iowa and Bernice (Lester) Erickson of Rochester, Minnesota and 1 brother, Barton (Marilyn) Hamm of Waterville, Iowa.
