Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23 for Lawrence D. Strong, age 70, of rural New Albin who died in his home Sunday, June 21, 1987. The Rev. Tom Mattson officiated at the 2 p.m. services held at the United Methodist Church in Lansing, Iowa. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery Lansing, Iowa with military rites by the New Albin VFW Post 5603. Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home of Lansing was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence was born November 9, 1916 in Vernon County, Wisconsin to Merle and Julia (Sparks) Strong. On February 18, 1939 he married Alma Crowley. She died June 11, 1958. He was a commercial fisherman and a World War II Navy veteran.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arnold Strong and Carl Strong.

Surviving are four sons, Edward Strong and David Strong of New Albin, Iowa, Ronald Strong of Lansing, Iowa and Thomas Strong of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 4 daughters, Karen White of St. Paul, Minnesota, Nancy Schneider of Park Ridge, Illinois, Lynn Strong of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Phyllis Waring of Mount Prospect, Illinois; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Robert Strong of Waukon, Iowa, Milton Strong of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Norbert Strong of Lansing, Iowa and Merlin Strong of Iowa City, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Gladys Triggs of Waukon, Iowa and Beverly Strong of St. Paul, Minnesota.
