Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Roy Russell Spores, age 68, of Dorchester, Iowa died Sunday October 5, 1986 at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in a Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin cemetery. Pallbearers were Calvin Beardmore, Gary Knickerbocker, Gaylord Spores, and Ronald, Malcolm and Randy Shefelbine.
Roy was born September 28, 1918 to James and Martha (Davis) Spores, Sr. in Colesburg, Iowa. He was educated in local schools. He married June Schultz who died in 1957. Roy served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II (1942-1943).
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Spores, Jr., and Alfred Spores and three sisters, Cora Spores, Audrey Knight, and Blanche Schleicher.
He is survived by a son Raymond Spores of Dorchester, Iowa; 4 brothers, Spenser Spores, Harold Spores, and Donald Spores of Dorchester, Iowa and Glen Spores of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Lillian Knickerbocker of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Alba Kudart of Decorah, Iowa.
