Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, 1988 for William "Bill" Huffman, Jr., 71, of rural Waukon, Iowa who died Saturday, September 3, 1988 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. The Rev. James Jacobson officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services held at Zalmona Presbyterian Church and burial with military services at the graveside. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Edward Opfer, Joe Bakke, Boyd Groezinger, Al Klahn, Mark Miller, and Bob Janett.

Bill was born August 5, 1917 in Rossville, Iowa to William and Emma (Wilson) Huffman. He attended Waterville High School and served in the Washington State National Guard from 1937 to 1940, then from 1941 to 1945 in the Army during WWII, serving in France, Germany, and the Aleutian Islands. On October 8, 1946 he was married to Alice Helming in Lakota by the Rev. E.H. Buschman.

In 1936 he lived in Tacoma, WA and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He returned to Waukon in 1945 and served as Waukon street commissioner; Allamakee County sheriff from 1946 to 1960. From 1961 to 1984 he worked as a salesman for Hall Roberts'& Son Feed and Seed in Postville, Iowa. He was a member of the Zalmona Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon, the Waukon Pioneer Fire Department, and the VFW.

Surviving are his wife, Alice, a daughter, Jean Ann Krueger of Waterloo, Iowa; a son, Paul of Waukon and three grandchildren, Lyn, Darci, and Andrea Krueger, of Waterloo, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were seven sisters, Hazel Webster, Pearl Smedsrud, Marie Roderick, Ethel Smith, Gladys Tovson, Helen Ames, and an infant.
