Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Raymond Edward Seigenthaler died Friday, September 29, 1989 at the age of 67 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron, South Dakota. Funeral services were held Monday, October 2, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of Christ Christian, Huron. Interment, with military rites, was held in Restlawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Michael Johnston officiating. Welter Funeral Home in Huron was in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Pat Zens, Bob Kinney, Tom Beerman, Douglas Winter, Carl Pearson and Floyd Lodmel.
Raymond was born July 21, 1922 to Irwin E. and Myrtle (Vance) Seigenthaler at Huron, South Dakota. On August 9, 1941 he married Mable Knutz in Mitchell, South Dakota. They made their home in Huron and in 1943 they moved to McMinnville, Oregon. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European theatre, where he was wounded in action. From 1948-1949 he attended Vocational School in Rapid City, SD. They returned to Huron where Ray was employed at Swander's Bakery and Metz Baking Company for 25 years, until he retired because of ill health. Raymond was a member of the Church of Christ Christian and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel; three sons and daughters in law, Ray Jr. and Geri Seigenthaler of Huron, SD, James and Mary Ann Seigenthaler of Waukon, Iowa and Dwight Seigenthaler of Sioux Falls, SD; and two daughters and one son-in-law, Connie Lewis of Sioux Falls, SD and Bonnie Lee and Peter Guagliardi of Brooklyn, New York; his mother Myrtle Seigenthaler Chapman of Huron, SD; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and three step-great grandchildren.
