Harold Eldo Mohs
Funeral services for Harold Mohs were held Saturday, October 25, 1997 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, IA. The Reverend T. M. Marks officiated. Marian Schutte was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Harold Eldo Mohs, the son of Richard and Mabel (Mohs) Suckow, was born March 21, 1923 at Postville, IA. He passed away Tuesday, October 21, 1997 at his home in Postville. He had reached the age of 74 years and seven months.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Harold was graduated from Postville High School in 1941. He served in the United State Army during World War II in the Philippines and New Guinea.
On February 27, 1946 he was married to Eileen Florence Kruse at the St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, IA. To this union six children were born. Harold was employed at the Marhoffer Packing Plant in Postville, also when it was purchased by Hygrade and the Rath Packing Plant in Waterloo, IA. He hauled milk and drove a truck and retired in 1973 following heart surgery. During his retirement years, Harold tended shop at the Suckow Dairy Equipment office on the east edge of Postville.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel; his stepfather, Richard Suckow; an infant son, Dennis Mohs and a sister, Verde Mae Schnuelle.
Surviving are his wife, Eileen; five children, David Mohs of Scottsdale, AZ, Dale (Deb) Mohs of St. Olaf, IA, Mary (Greg) Braun of Harmony, MN, Richard (Diane) Mohs of Ossian, IA and Nancy (Bob) Radloff of Postville, IA; seven grandchildren: Dustin and Dannon Mohs; Callie and Scott Braun; John Tieskoetter, Bobbie and Kristie Radloff; three brothers: Delbert Suckow of Postville, Dwayne Suckow of Fairbank and Willis Suckow of Cedar Rapids; two sisters: Velma Miner of Cedar Rapids, IA and LaVanda Thonton of Waterloo and other relatives and friends.
Harold was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served one year as the District Commander and a member of the AM-VETS. Harold enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading and fishing.
The casket bearers were Dustin Mohs, Dannon Mohs, Scott Braun, John Tieskoetter, Kelly Lien, Darby Suckow, Dennis Suckow and Mervin Mabb.
The honorary casket bearers were Bobbie Radloff, Kristie Radloff and Callie Braun.
