Funeral services for Dr. Milton F. Kiesau were held Monday, January 24, 2005, at the Presbyterian Church in Postville, with Rev. Gary Catterson officiating. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Milton Frederick Kiesau was born October 21, 1908, in Frankville, Iowa, to Frederick William and Emma (Deppe) Kiesau. He passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005, in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville at the age of 96 years.

Milton was baptized and confirmed in the Salem Reformed Church north of Postville. He attended Postville Schools and graduated with the class of 1925. At the age of 16, he attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids then transferred to the University of Iowa, graduating in 1932. Milton served three years of residency in surgery at Metropolitan Hospital in Cleveland before setting up practice in Postville.

On June 8, 1941, Milton married Pauline Kiesau at the home of her parents in Toolsborough, Iowa. Having been called to active military duty, he left for Europe, serving there in the Army Medical Corps in England and France for four and one-half years. He returned to Postville following the war to practice medicine with his father. Here Milton and Pauline raised their four children, David, Douglass, Mary, and Georgia.

The family became an integral part of the community, touching the lives of everyone who has lived here. His practice covered an era before emergency rooms and penicillin, but house calls were a common occurrence. Dr. Kiesau retired in 1995 at the age of 86, after 60 years of serving the community.

Dr. Kiesau was a member of the American College of Surgeons, had received the Proficiency Award for 12 years from the American Medical Association, the Alumni Award of Merit from Coe College, and the Iowa State High School Athletic Association honored him as the Doctor of the Year for his 50 years of service to that organization.

He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, having served as an Elder as well as serving on most of the church committees. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Arthur F. Brandt Post. Dr. Kiesau also served on various boards including the Postville Telephone Company, Community Memorial Hospital, the Postville State Bank Board of Directors, and the Good Samaritan Center Advisory Board.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; three children, Douglass Kiesau of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Mary (Charles) Bramer of Steamboat Springs, and Georgia (Andy) Reust of Steamboat Springs; a daughter-in-law, Donna Orvald; and five grandchildren, Carter Kiesau, M.D. and wife Annie Kiesau, M.D., Marin Siemonoski, M.D. and husband Benjamin Siemonoski, M.D., Hallie Bramer, Sarah Leonard, and Frank Leonard.

He was preceded in death by a son, David; a son-in-law, Frank Leonard; and two sisters, Lillian (Donald) Eames and Esther (Paul L.) Bowlin.

Casketbearers were Carter D. Kiesau, Frank E. Leonard III, Benjamin Siemonoski, C.J. Bramer, David Bowlin, and John Bowlin.
