Ida Sue Steele, age 92, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. She was born in Gilbertville, Iowa on June 27, 1913, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Herrick) Schares. Ida was married to Atty. Joseph B. Steele on August 24, 1942 in San Diego, CA. He passed away in 1993. Formerly of Postville, Iowa, she was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville for many years.

She was a long time employee of John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa. She moved to Sun Prairie 10 years ago to be near her daughter. Ida loved roses, antiques, Ho-Chunk Casino, watching the stock market, and shopping.

She is survived by: her daughter, Marilyn Penn of Sun Prairie; 2 granddaughters, Ann (Lee) Sensenbrenner of Madison, and Joan (Tracy) Tool of River Falls; 2 great-grandchildren, Eliza and Raymond; her sister, Marie Dorr of Dubuque, Iowa; 6 nephews and a special niece Dee Ann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held at Tuschen-Newcomer Funeral Home, Sun Prairie on Friday, December 23, 2005, with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt officiating. Burial was at St. Peters Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa.
