August Kurk 1834-1928

August Kurk, one of the oldest settlers of this community, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gusta King, after having reached the age of 94 years. The deceased was born May 18, 1834 in Schale, Germany. In 1883 Mr. Kurk moved to America with his family, taking up his residence in this neighborhood. In 1892 his wife, nee Adelheid Dresselhaus, was called from him, leaving him with four childrn. About a year later, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Catherine Buntrock, with whom he enjoyed a number of years when death took her from his side on February 9, 1910. A year later, one son, August, also passed away.
He is survived by three children, Herman Kurk, Mrs. Henry King, Mrs. George Waters, of this community.
In spite of his advancing years, Mr. Kurk had enjoyed comparatevely good health until a few months ago when the infirmities of old age left marked impressions and during the last few days became very feeble.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Klein, were held at the home and at St. Lukes, Ev. church on Saturday afternoon. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

August Lived in New Albin area for many years. His 2nd wife was Catherine Deters Buntrock.
