LIFE OF VENERABLE RESIDENT CLOSES.
Gilbert Hanson, one of the pioneer residents of this vicinity, passed to his eternal rest at his home on Round Prairie, Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 1924. He was ill but one day, his health having been unusually good for one of his venerable age, 93 years. Deceased was born at Land, Norway, Nov. 30, 1831. In 1867 with his wife and two small children he arrived in this country, making the trip across the ocean in a sailing ship which occupied 13 weeks time. From New York to Lansing they came by emigrant trains and boat. For over forty years Mr. Hanson had resided on the old homestead in this township.
His wife, who was Miss Audrine (correction - Andrine) Nelson (also called Taerningen), preceded him in death on May 24, 1920. Their surviving children are

Nic Hanson,
H. A. Hanson,
J. M. Hanson,
Albert Hanson,
Gilbert Hanson,
of Waukon; and
Mrs. A. G. Bakkum (Agnete Hanson)
of Fosston, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at the late home of deceased at 11 o'clock (some words missing here in newspaper copy)...

Mr. Hanson was one of the sturdy type of pioneers, truthful and honorable in his dealings, and was highly respected by all who knew him.NOTE: Words in parentheses added by M. B. Eldridge.
