DIED - In New Albin, Iowa, on the 15th inst., James Logan, aged 71 years.
The deceased was one of the old settlers of Allamakee county, he having located near Waukon in 1856. He was born near Edinburgh, Scotland, and in early life was in the employ of Sir Walter Scott. He came to America in 1832 and for many years resided in New York, near Albany.
He sold his fine farm a few miles west of Waukon several years ago, removed to this city, and then to New Albin, where, for some years past, he has been keeping hotel.
The remains were buried on Monday last in the cemetery at New Albin. He leaves an aged wife and several grown up children, as follows: Mrs. J.S. Mobley, of this city; Mrs. F.P. Price and Mrs. Wm. Harrison, of Oswego, Kansas; Mrs. Williamson and Wm. Logan, of New Orleans.

An Old Settler Dead - James Logan, an old citizen of Allamakee County, died at New Albin, on Saturday, at the advanced age of 74 years.
Until the year 1873 [or 1878] Mr. Logan resided here, at that time engaging in the hotel business at New Albin, which he continued up to the time of his death
He was born in Scotland, and in his youth was a member of the household of Sir Walter Scott, of whom he delighted in speaking in terms of honor and devotion. To the writer he has often spoken of his early years, and his early lifetime were marked by events of more than ordinary interest.
The funeral occurred on Monday, the remains being interred in the village cemetery at his request.
He leaves an aged widow and several daughters, among whom are Mrs. J.S. Mobley of this place, and Mrs. F.P. Price of Kansas, a former resident of Lansing.
