On August 8, 1927, Mr. George F. Dodds, a pioneer resident of Allamakee county, suffered a slight stroke of paralysis at New Hampton, Iowa. Complications set in which resulted in his death on Sept. 10, 1927, at St. Joseph's Hospital, New Hampton.
Mr. Dodds was born April 11, 1851. On January 10, 1888, he was united in marriage with Mary E. Doonan, at Minominee, Illinois, who preceded him in death August 11, 1914.
To this union were born six children, as follows: John W. of Des Moines, Ia.; Sister M. Lignori (who preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1918); George P., of Dubuque, Iowa; Joseph A., of Bernard, Iowa; Rose and Clara of Milwaukee, Wis. All of his surviving children were with him at the time of his death. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
Mr. Dodds died fortified by the last rites of the Catholic church, of which he was a devoted member.
The funeral was held at St. Joseph's church, Paint Rock, Monday morning at 10 o'clock, Requiem Mass being sung by Father Nolan, who also preached an eloquent sermon, interment being made in that cemetery beside his departed wife.
The casket bearers were Frank Saddler, Theodore Cota, N.F. Brazell, T.A. Houlihan, T.W. Melaven and John Hawes.
