MR. JOHN MILLIAMS
Allamakee county's pioneers are passing away one by one, Mr. John Williams being the last to answer the final summons, his death occurring last Friday at the home of his daughter Mrs. James O'Malley of Hanover township.
Mr. Williams was born in county Carlow, Ireland in the year 1825, coming to America when twenty-three years of age. A year later he was married to Mary Fenelon at Hoosiac Falls, N. Y. in 1853. Mr. and Mrs. Williams came west to Freeport, Ill., where they remained two years, then came to Waukon. In 1858 he located on a farm in French Creek township where he lived until 1890, then returned to Waukon. Here, in 1902, his wife passed away and in May, 1908, Mr. Williams went to make his home with daughter Mrs. O'Malley.
Mr. Williams was the parent of nine children, six sons and three daughters. Four of the sons have preceded him in death. The remaining children are Dan of Waukon, Andrew J. of Moorehead, Minn., Mrs. Stephen Donahue of Sioux Falls, S. D., Mrs. J. M. McNamara of Des Moines and Mrs. O'Malley of this county.
Mr. Williams was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends who, to show their friendly feeling for him, followed him in large numbers to his lasting resting place at Lycurgus, after the funeral service at the Catholic church, where he was a devout and devoted worshipper.
