Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m. from Old West Paint Creek Lutheran church for Alert Helmer Roe of Waukon, who died Thursday, Oct. 24 at his home after an illness of two years.

The Rev. E.O. Baalson officiated and interment was in the church cemetery. Robert Hagen, Melvin Roe, Donald Roe, Melvin Smedsrud, Willard Roe and Orrin Roe were pallbearers. Bakke and Hanson funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roe was born Sept. 27, 1888 in Waterville and was a son of Tollef and Anna Trondson Roe. He attended country school and high school and farmed for 32 years in Center township of Allamakee county.

He married Augusta Bakke Aug. 28, 1919 with the Rev. Unseth performing the ceremony. She survives with a daughter Mrs. Herb (Marian) Ward of Waukon and a foster son, Larry Daniels of Nashville, Tenn. Two grandchildren, five foster grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by a son Norval who died in 1942, a great granddaughter, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Gilman (Ruth) Hagen, Cornellia, Mrs. Conrad (Aletha) Holland, Mrs. Lena Peterson, Ove, Carl, Oscar and Melvin. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Mr. Roe was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran church where he served on many church boards until his retirement. He served as secretary of Scandinavian Mutual Insurance company for many years, as secretary of the Center township school board, the Allamakee county fair board, and Allamakee county election board for many years and was active in working for other civic organizations.
