Funeral services for Melvin Bakke, 92, of Waukon, were held Wednesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. in West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, the Rev. Milton Twiet officiating. He died on Sunday, July 3, in the Waukon hospital.

He was born in Allamakee county on November 3, 1884, to John and Ingeborg Gilbertson. He married Minnie Johnson on February 18 1909 in Allamakee county and farmed in the area until 1960.

He was preceded in death by his wife. Surviving are a daughter, Julia; a brother, Ingvold; and two sisters, Mrs. Greeta Roe and Idelia Bakke, all of Waukon.

An infant son preceded him in death as well as brothers, Cornelius, Julius, Paul, Theodore and Ottemus and sisters Olga and Nora also preceded him in death.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Bakke, Lester Bakke, Donald Bakke, Herb Ward, Herman Wilger and James Winke. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
