Little Boy Suffocated
The death of Duane Bakke, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bakke of near Elon, occurred late Tuesday afternoon, July 20, when he was found unconscious in the farm silo. He was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but to no avail. Authorities and Dr. A.F. Wiley were called. An autopsy was held, death thought to be from poisonous gas from chopped grain which had recently been put into the silo.

Duane R. Bakke was born at Waukon on March 10, 1959, a son of Charles and Sylvia Zimmerman Bakke. He is survived by his parents, a sister Patsy and brothers, Dean and Todd, all at home; the paternal grandfather I.O. Bakke and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rissman.

Services were held Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church with the Rev. E.O. Baalson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pall bearers were Ronnie Winters, Ricky Hagen, Greg Gilbertson, Jimm Winters, Allen and Wayne Rissman.
