BAKKE, LEIKVOLD, ELLEFSON, ROE, MARTIN, HANGARTNER

Final rites for Cornelius J. Bakke, 74, life long resident of this area were Thursday from Bakke and Hanson Funeral home, and at 2 p.m. at the West Synod Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mr. Walther Gullixson officiated and burial was in the nearby cemetery.

The death of Mr. Bakke occurred on Sunday evening Feb. 23 at the Lutheran hospital in La Crosse following surgery. He was born in Allamakee County on April 3, 1883, a son of John P. and Ingeborg Bakke. He was educated in the local schools and was a life long and faithful member of the West Synod Lutheran Church.

His marriage to Marie Leikvold took place at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sever Leikvold on Nov. 22nd, 1906 and Mr. Bakke and wife farmed until several years ago when they retired and moved to Waukon. Mr. Bakke will be sadly missed as he was loved and respected by every one who knew him and was a kind neighbor to all.

He is survived by is wife, three sisters and six brothers. His sisters are, Mrs. Hermond Ellefson of Aberdeen, Wash., Mrs. Alert H. Roe and Idelia Bakke, both of Waukon. The brothers are, Paul and I.O. both of Waukon, Melvin of rural Waterville and Julius, Ottenes and Theodore, all of rural Waukon. The following are nephews and neices: Mrs. Roger Martin of Waukon, Mrs. Rolland Hangartner of Cedar Rapids, Miss Shirley Bakke, student at Mankato, Minn., Norma Ellefson and Ordell Ellefson of Aberdeen, Wash. and John Paul Bakke, student at Luther College, Decorah.

The following nephews were pallbearers: Charles Bakke, Donald Bakke, Joseph Bakke, Lester Ness, Howard Ness and Lester Bakke.
