George Brown, who has been an inmate of the County Home for the past eight years, died there Tuesday f last week. He was 85 years old and is survived by no relatives.
As is usual in such cases, the remains were shipped to the State University at Iowa City to be used for dissecting purposes.
~The Allamakee Journal & Lansing Mirror, Wednesday, June 28, 1933; pg 4 (Waukon branch office columns)
Note: Mr. Brown appears on the 'Woodmansee' burials in Oakland Main cemetery. If he has a gravestone there, it may be a cenotaph. Interested researchers should verify burial in Oakland Main. Unless the wishes of next of kin specify otherwise, bodies donated to the U of I in modern times are buried in a common grave in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City, IA. As Mr. Brown had no relatives, his remains were more than likely buried according to the practices in 1933.
