John Gideon Quinn was born in New York June 25, 1854. He came with his parents, the late Michael and Mary Quinn, to Lansing when a small child.

The family resided in town for years, where he acquired a good education and later worked at the printing business for a time. He was a very well read man and possessed of a remarkable memory. His love for good reading continued throughout his life.

He later took up farming on the homestead, south of town, with his parents, were he he resided until their death and later the death of his sister Mary. His entire life was spent in the vicinity of Lansing and he never married.

About a year ago, his mind becoming impaired, he was committed to the County Home, where he died March 27, 1928. He was a devout Catholic and died fortified by the rites of his church.

The funeral was held Thursday from the Pleumer & Bakke funeral parlors, Waukon, to Lansing and Immaculate Conception church, where a requiem mass was said by Msgr. Haxmeier for the happy repose of his soul, burial in Gethsemane cemetery.

The pall-bearers, mainly old friends of the deceased, were: Frank Kelleher, George Fitzpatrick, Fred spinner, Thos. Howard, R.W. Carroll and R.A. Dunlevy.
