Word reached relatives at Waukon and friends here, Friday last, of the death that day in Sioux City, Iowa, of Wm. E. Fleming, after a brief illness with pneumonia.

Deceased was born in this city Dec. 23, 1852, the oldest son of the late Patrick and Bridget Fleming. Was married to Eunia McCafferty in Immaculate Conception church June 17, 1878, by Rev. G.L. Haxmeier, present pastor of that church.

[He] engaged in farming in Lansing township for several years and was a most successful farmer.

After several years on the farm he came to town and engaged in stock-buying, the farm machinery and other lines, finally removing with his family to Laurel, Neb, about 1900, where they resided for several years until making their home in Sioux City.

Five daughters and two sons were born to them, two of the former, Mary and Gertrude, dying after reaching womanhood, and one son in infancy. Those surviving with the widow are: John A., Miss Nellie and Mesdames C.J. Brennan and Vic Henry, with twelve grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Gallagher, also of Sioux City.

A sister, Mrs. Kate Devlin of Viroqua, Wis., and brother, John of Hartington, Neb., also preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Fleming celebrated their Golden Wedding with a family reunion June 17, 1928, and until the final illness, which set in Christmas eve, had enjoyed fairly good health. Both were stricken at the same time but Mrs. Fleming was on the mend and able to sit up a little daily at last reports.

The funeral took lace at Sioux City Monday of this week. Peace to the ashes of an old friend.
