Died, at his residence in this city, on Sunday evening, the 16th inst., of consumption, Mr. Max Loeper; aged 31 years.

So sudden and unexpected was Mr. Loeper's death that but few of our citizens knew of his illness until Sunday morning, when he was reported to be dying. He had been a resident of our city for less than a year, yet by his affable and pleasing address and gentlemanly demeanor he readily made many friends who sorrow deeply at his sudden death.

The disease which caused his death has been troubling him for years past, and there was no help for him. Mr. Loeper was born in Coblentz, Germany and came to this country many years ago. He studied medicine for a number of years, and during our rebellion he went into the army and served for some time as a surgeon. His father now resides at Indianapolis, Ind., and is a prominent and successful physician there.

Mr. Loeper went to Prairie du Chien several years ago under an engagement as leader of the German Singing Society of that place, which he filled to the utmost satisfaction of the Society. He was a thorough instructor, and his musical skill with the piano was rapturous and enchanting.

About three years ago he was married to Miss Georgii, a most estimable young lady, of Prairie du Chien. He came to Lansing last fall to fill an engagement as leader of the German Singing Society, since which time he has resided here.

His funeral took place on Monday afternoon and was largely attended, the Singing Society attending in procession and performing their beautiful burial service. His loss will be sadly felt in this city, particularly in the musical circles.

His wife will return immediately to her parent's home in Prairie du Chien, and the heartfelt sympathy of this entire community goes with her.
