It becomes the JOURNAL'S painful duty this week to chronicle the death of a friend and one of our universally esteemed and respected young men. R.L. Masiker has gone the way of all mankind.

After a brief illness with acute tuberculosis he passed over the border Monday evening at 9:15 o'clock, and if death is the echo of life his is a marked proof of a truly virtuous and well spent life.

His age was 21 years, 9 months and 8 days. "Rudy" as he was familiarly called, was a model young man in every respect, largely self-made, and a graduate of the Lansing High School, Nora Springs Seminary and Wis. Business University. Gifted with a clear, bright intellect and wonderful brain power, he would have been a light and an ornament to society had he been spared, and already had made quite a reputation for himself in the field of literature. His patience and resignation all through his sufferings are said to have been remarkable and characteristic only of those who have made their peace with God.

Rudy will be sadly missed by father, brothers and sister, but they need not mourn as those without hope, for his every-day life and his Christian character assures them that he is not dead but gone before. It is said that Death loves a shining mark and the truth of the saying was never more forcibly verified than in this case.

Funeral from the M.E. Church at 10 o'clock this morning.
