Three Eastern Iowans Killed Over Weekend

Three Eastern Iowans lost their lives in traffic accidents over the weekend.

James Edward Hackman, 19 of Calmar died early Sunday in a one-car accident just east of Spillville and two Waukon men, David Gallagher, 19, and Lee Lawson, 21, were fatally injured when their car left the highway near Genoa, Wis., at about 4 a.m. Sunday.

Hackman's death was one of three to occur on Iowa highways on the weekend.

Winneshiek county sheriff's officers said his auto skidded a total of 660 feet, traveling over two driveways and crashing into a culvert, after leaving county road 325, Hackman was dead on arrival at Winneshiek County Memorial hospital at Decorah.

Services for Hackman will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic church, Calmar. The rosery will be recited Monday and Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at French funeral home, Calmar.
He is survived by his parents, the Paull Hackmans of Calmar; one brother, Edward and four sisters, Kathy, Donna, Nancy, and Paula, all of Calmar. Hackman was a mechanic for the Juve comapany of Decorah.

Waukon Men

The Wisconsin crash which killed David Gallagher, 19, and Lee Lawson, 21, of Waukon also resulted in minor injuries for a third occupant of the car, Robert Keehn, 16, of Waukon. He was treated at a Veroque, Wis., hospital.

The two dead men were thrown from the car driven by Gallagher when it left highway 35 near Genova, Wis. The accident was believed to have occurred at about 4 a.m. although the wreckage was not discovered until 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Services for Lawson are pending at Martin funeral home at Waukon. He is survived by his wife and his parents, the Roland Lawsons. Gallagher's services are pending at Bakken-Hanson funeral home, Waukon. He was the son of Vernon Gallaghers.
