At his home in Center township Saturday last of rheumatism, Jonathan Calvert breathed his last.

Deceased was old and respected resident, having resided here since 1867.

Jonathan Calvert was born at Thwaite, Yorkshire, England, Sept. 27, 1819. At the age of sixteen he left his home to learn the blacksmith trade, which he followed until his 55th year, when he turned his attention to farming.

At the age of twenty-nine he left the land of his birth to seek his fortunes in America, arriving at Benton, Wis., in May 1848, the following year removing to McGregor. There in the winter of 1851 he married Miss Johanna Hedstrom.

After a series of twenty years of toil and perserverance, gaining the confidence and esteem of all who knew him, he removed to the present home in Center township, this county. On the 2d of October 1886, at the ripe age of sixty-seven and five days he finished the work that was set for him to perform.

He leaves a wife, three sons and three daughters who deeply mourn the loss of a kind, loving and affectionate husband and father.

He was buried from his late residence Oct. 8, Rev's Houghton, of Lansing, and Sweedburg, of Village Creek, officiating. A large number of the neighbors and friends of the family followed the remains to the grave.

McGregor papers please notice.
