Cloy Miene

Cloy H. Miene, 59, was born in Postville on May 12, 1932. He died Feb 7, 1992.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. A graduate of Carthage College, he received his Masters of Divinity from Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (Maywood). Ordained in his home church in Postville on June 1, 1958, he served the following parishes: St. Marks Lutheran, West Des Moines, IA (1958-1969); First Lutheran, Shawnee Mission, KS (1969-1982); and Gloria Dei Lutheran, Wichita, KS (1982-1992). He served on many Synodical Committees and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bethany College for several years. Bethany honored him with the Doctor of Divinity degree in 1982. His last position was as a member of the Synod Transition Team forming the ELCA.

Pastor Miene is survived by his wife, Marlene; one daughter, Deborah Cook of Goddard, KS; one son, Peter of Minneapolis; his father, Otto Miene of Postville; two brothers, Paul of Postville and Mark of Baltimore; two sisters, Betty Kruse of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Chicken of Burlington; and four grandchildren --Benjamin and Courney Cook and Stephanie and Alexander Miene.

Burial was in Resthave Cemetery, Wichita, KS.
