DIED - In this city, on Monday morning, the 20th inst., of typhoid fever, J.H. Pape, aged 52 years and 9 months.
The deceased was one of our oldest citizens, having come here upwards of twenty years ago when Lansing was but a small hamlet. He started in business with but very small capital. Close attention to business, energy and perseverence soon put him on the highway to prosperity, and for years he has been one of our leading merchants.
His death was sudden and unexpected. He had been quite low with the fever, but was supposed to be recovering when he was suddenly taken worse, and passed away in his wife's arms with scarce a moment's warning.
The deceased leaves a large family whose grief is such as is only felt over the death of a kind and affectionate husband and father.
The funeral takes place this afternoon. Services at the Presbyterian church, in both English and German. Friends of the deceased are invited.
