Death of John Rice, Sr.

At his home in this township Friday morning last (unreadable), but uttered no complaint. About 2 a.m. he arose to get a drink of water, and after asking for some medicine, passed peacefully to rest. Mr. Rice was a pioneer here. He was born in Germany in 1819, and came to America in 1835. At Utica, New York, hew was married to Margaret Wittman, who died 31 years ago. By this union four sons were born, George, John, Frank and Simon. Later he married Miss Frances Rothermel of French Creek, who survives him with four children. Mr. Rice was a man highly esteemed by all his acquaintances. He was a quiet, home-loving man, and had a kind word for all. The funeral took place here Monday from the Catholic church, interment being in the new cemetery west of town.
