The following obituary of Mrs. Samuel Smith of Rossville was handed us too late for publication last week:

Nancy Powell was born in Kosciusko county, Indiana, April 25, 1833, and died at her home in Franklin township, Allamakee county, Iowa, April 25, 1909, aged 76 years.

In her childhood her parents started to emigrate to California. While on the way the father died in Cedar Rapids, and the mother with her seven children settled within a few miles of the home where she died.

On January 2, 1855, she was united in marriage with Samuel S. Smith. Two children were born to them, Emma E. and Sophronia, both of whom preceded her to the world beyond.

In her womanhood she joined the Christian church and was always a faithful worker in the church and Sabbath school, which she loved. About six years ago she joined the United Brethren church at Forest Mills. No one can question the sincerity of her Christian life or the certainty of her reward.

She leaves to mourn her death an aged husband, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, a sister and a brother, besides numerous other relatives and friends.

Hers was a long life, full of care and toil and of kind and noble deeds. On the anniversary of her birthday she was called to her heavenly home to meet the loved ones whom she had never forgotten.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, at the Presbyterian church at Rossville, conducted by Rev. R.L. Van Nice, and her remains interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
