The remains of Thomas Thompson, who died at Rolette, N. Dak., were brought here for burial last evening. Death took place Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Smith, of inflammatory rheumatism.
He had been to some mineral springs in Canada for his health and stopped off at his daughter's on the way back to his home at Churchs Ferry, N.D., to recuperate a little, when death overtook him.
Deceased was born in Lansing township sixty-three years ago, being the fifth son of the late George and Elizabeth Thompson. His death is the first break in fifty years in a family circle of ten brothers and two sisters.
Forty-one years ago the 21st day of next March he married Minnie Engelhorn, who, with two daughters, Mrs. Joe Nichol of Churchs Ferry, N.D., and Mrs. Wm. Smith of Rolette, N.D., and one son, Harvey, at present in the Canadian service in England, survive him.
Until going to North Dakota some twenty years ago they farmed on the hills of Allamakee with varying success, being no better off the last year than the first, but fortune favored them in their new home and just about when ready to enjoy a competency he dies. But such is life generally.
Funeral this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of his brother, Supervisor Frank Thompson, where the remains were taken last evening, to the First Presbyterian church; Rev. W.C. Krebs officiating. Burial in Oak Hill.
The nine remaining brothers are: James, Waukon; Robert, New Albin; George, Ettrick, Wis.; John, Grandview, Wash.' Richard, Lansing; William, New Albin; Alexander and Frank, Lansing; Harry, Lindsey, Cal.; the two sisters being Mrs. R. Bakewell, Church; and Mrs. Geo. Wild, of Waterloo.
The widow and daughters and Wm. Hausman, of Churchs Ferry, accompanied the remains and the brother George and his son Harry, of Etrick, arrived this morning.
