SERENE, HOYE, SERENE, SPINNER, MCGAUGHY, RASMUSSON

Lansing, Ia. - A mass of requiem was read in the Immaculate Conception church here Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock for Mrs. Anna Serene, 72, the Most Rev. Monsignor John Haxmeier officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Gethsemane.

As Anna Jane Hoye, she was born April 27, 1862 at Randolph, Mass. When a small child, she moved with her parents to Rock Island. At the age of 12 she was left an orphan, her parents dying within a year of each other. A short time later she came to Lansing to live with her uncle, the late John Hoye. Since then Lansing had been her home.

On June 14, 1882, she was married to John H. Serene, Lansing ferryman. He died 24 years ago. Their first born son, John, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Peter Spinner and Miss Loretta Serene, both of Lansing, and Mrs. Daniel McGaughy, of Gurnee, Il. One sister, Mrs. Nora Rasmusson, of Hollywood, Calif., also survives.

Pallbearers were: Barney Wellendorf, George Voelkert, Charles Spinner, Edward Julson, William Guider, and Richard Dunlevy.
