Died in Lansing, Dec. 26th, 1882, of asthmatic consumption, Mr. Fredrick Schulze, aged 73 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Mr. Schulze was born at Neuropene, in Prussia. He came to the United States in the year 1857 and first settled at Dubuque, Iowa, where he remained two years. He then came to Allamakee county, and after a short stay in Lansing, he settled on a farm in French Creek township, where he carried on farming until 1866, when he again moved to Lansing, where he resided until 1868, when he purchased a farm in Center township. This he cultivated until about eight years ago, when he sold out and purchased a new and uncultivated one which required much labor in order to be brought into cultivation. But Mr. Schulze's poor health and declining years soon compelled him to abandon it.

He then moved to Lansing where he resided until his death. He has reared a large family who have all grown to manhood and womanhood. He also leaves an aged wife who was the friend of his youth and who with him has enjoyed the vicissitudes of life, and now much finish the remainder of her journey alone.

~Allamakee Journal, Wednesday, January 10, 1883; pg 2

Note: He has a gravestone in Old Oak Hill cemetery, dates on stone are 12/24/1809 - 12/21/1882 (conflict w/obit)
