LAST RITES FOR JOHN J. BLAKE - A mass of requiem was said Friday, Feb. 25 in St. Mary's Church, Dorchester, for John J. Blake Sr. The Rev. William O'Brien was the officiating priest and interment was in St Mary's cemetery, Dorchester. Jim Hegeman, Jack Duffy, Ralph Larson, Eddie and Pat Burke and Dick Mauss were pallbearers. Mr Blake who was a farmer until his retirement, died Tuesday, Feb. 22 after a short illness. He was born May 22, 1867 in County Cork and was a son of William and Catherine Sullivan Blake. In 1900 he married Mary McKenna in Chicago, and they moved to Allamakee county in 1910. They were parents of twelve children. Survivors are two sons, William of Chicago and John P. Blake of Waukon and eight daughters; Mrs. Henry (Marie) Schulte and Mrs. Gertrude Larson, Dorchester; Mrs. Francis (Patricia) Byrnes, Mrs. Don (Betty) Hegeman, Waukon; Mrs. Joe (Julia) Mauss, Lansing; Mrs. Connie (Beatrice) Mauss, New Albin; Mrs. Helen White, Denver, Colo., and Frances Blake of Cedar Rapids, eighty-nine grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren, and a sister who lives in Ireland also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Oct. 5, 1958, and two sons, James and Patrick Blake, who died in 1931 and 1963. Mr Blake was a member of St Mary's Church. Bakke and Hanson was in charge of arrangements and the rosary was recited at the funeral home Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
