BETTY HEGEMAN

Funeral services for Betty B. Hegeman, 78, of Waukon, were held March 18, 1991, at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon.

She died March 13 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Houston, Texas, after a brief illness.

The Rev. Ed Lechtenberg officiated at the services , and burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Betty Blake was born July 24, 1912, at Dorchester, the daughter of John and Mary Ann Blake. She attended Waukon High School, and married Donald W. Hegeman of Waukon in 1930.

She was a charter member of the Waukon Toastmistress Club, a past president of the Allamakee County American Legion Auxiliary, and vice chair of the Allamakee County Democratic Central Committee for several years.

With her husband, she operated a craft and hobby shop, and later an antique business in downtown Waukon. Her husband died June 14, 1987.

Survivors include seven children, Mrs. Tom (Mary Ann) Champion of Decorah, Bill of Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Bill (Jeanie) Irvin, Wichita and Blake, Stanley, Kans., Robert of Iowa City, Therese Nelsen of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Katherine Lemburg of Bay City, Texas; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother John; and her sisters, Marie Schulte and Julia Mauss of Waukon; Beatrice Mauss of New Albin, Fran Blake of LeMoore, Calif., and Helen White of Denver, Colo.

Pallbearers were her nephews, Louis Hegeman, Bill and Frank Byrnes, Pat and Eddie Blake, Walter Larson and Jerry Blake.

Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
