Edward M. Halvorson, age 57 of Elkhart, IN, formerly of New Hampton, IA died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday December 23, 2013, at Holy Family Parish - St. Joseph Center in New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Lector for the service will be Sandy Reicks. Ann Bennett will be the organist with Julianna Bonfig as cantor. Krystal Halvorson will be the vocalist, singing, 'Amazing Grace - My Chains are Gone' and 'Here Comes The Sun'. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Olivia Reicks, Jamisen Halverson, Maddie Dyvig, Neysa Halverson, Kylie Kelly and Zoey Kelly.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon with Gary Halvorson, Jeff Halvorson, Paul Halvorson, Pete Halvorson, Bruce Halvorson and Eric Halverson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Nick Huber, Joey Svendsen and Jory Dyvig.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church.

Edward M. Halvorson was born September 7, 1956, in New Hampton, IA, the son of Merle and Joan (Ehler) Halvorson. He received his education in New Hampton and was a 1974 graduate of New Hampton High School. At the age of 16, Ed began working for Zip’s Wrecker Service and later worked for the Tri-Mark Corporation, both in New Hampton.

Ed met Lorna Ward and after a first date golfing in Elma, began their loving life together. On July 23, 1996, in Ames, IA, the couple was united in marriage.

Ed will be remembered in so many ways. He had a special love for his wife whom he called his best friend and ‘honey’. He was fiercely loyal and a mentor to all, inspiring nothing less than perfection. He loved his career and was always encouraging others to do their best. Ed was an expert in his field, and a fearless problem solver. He was gracious and generous, sharing his ‘man-cave’ with all his family, friends and neighbors. He loved music and dancing, always enjoying a good time. Ed had the opportunity to travel for both work and pleasure attending many NASCAR races. He ended his career as the Director of Sales and Product Development for Global Link in Elkhart.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna; four daughters, Pricilla (Joey) Svendsen, Krystal Halvorson all of Charleston, SC, Michelle (Jory) Dyvig of Webster City, IA and Stacy Halverson of Elkhart, IN; one son, Eric (Heather) Halverson of Scranton, IA; his mother, Joan Halvorson of New Hampton; five brothers, Gary (Pat) Halvorson of Alta Vista, IA, Jeff Halvorson, Paul Halvorson and Bruce (Julie) Halvorson all of New Hampton, IA and Peter (Leanne) Halvorson of Cedar Rapids, IA; two sisters, Shelly (Wayne) Gray of New Hampton, IA and Sandy (Dean) Reicks of Lawler, IA; 14 grandchildren, Rosa, Gwenny, William, Joshua Waylon, Madison, Zachary, Braylon, August, Neysa, Kylie, Zoey, Jamisen, Jaden and Isabella;13 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle in 2008.
