RALPH WILLIAM BACHTELL 1898-1968

Funeral services for Ralph Bachtell were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Friday, September 27, 1968, at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Dick Harberts officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Ralph William Bachtell, son of Charles and Caroline Carithers Bachtell, was born on March 18, 1898, in Post Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. He lived with his parents on the farm and received his education in a rural school and attended high school in Postville. He has lived his entire life in this community. He attended the former Methodist Church. He has also belonged to the Commercial Club and Postville Odd Fellows Lodge No. 707.

Ralph Bachtell was united in marriage to Gertrude Prior on June 4, 1918. To this union two sons were born: Charles and Robert. He was married to Catherine Mann on September 28, 1935, and to this union two sons were born: Keith and Stephen.

Mr. Bachtell passed away on Monday, September 23, 1968, after a brief illness. He reached the age of 70 years, six months, and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bachtell; an infant son; one brother, Elmer C. Bachtell (1879-1880); and an infant sister in 1881.

Mr. Bachtell is survived by his wife, Catherine, and four sons: Charles of Berwyn, Illinois; Colonel Robert of Naples, Italy; Keith and Stephen of Mount Prospect, Illinois; also seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
