Sister Mary Colette Ayer, BVM, 87, of Marian Hall at Mount Carmel, 1050 Carmel Drive, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 1995, at Marian Hall.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marian Hall Chapel, with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chapel, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Mary taught school in Chicago; Riverside, Iowa; and Clarke College, Dubuque. She also was a librarian at Mundelein College, Chicago; and at Clarke College.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1907, in New Albin, Iowa, daughter of Henry Francis and Frances Gertrude (Callahan) Ayer.

She made her first profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1941, and her final vows on Aug. 15, 1946.

Surviving are a niece, a nephew, two grandnieces, five grandnephews and a cousin. She is also survived by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with whom she shared her life for 56 years.
