WAUKON - Miss Emma Townsend died Saturday night at the home of Mrs. McWillams. She was born at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Sept. 21, 1844. When eight years old she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. (Ruth Ann Huestis) Townsend, to this county, settling on a farm east of Waukon. Fifty-seven years ago the family moved to this city. She was one of the early primary teachers of the Waukon public schools, a position she held for many years. Surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Herbert Townsend and Mrs. Lafe Bigelow, Waukon. William Townsend of Eckleson, N.D., and Mrs. H.W. Turner, Gladstone, Mich. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Bigelow home, conducted by the Rev. H.W. Singer. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.
