The death of Jas. Campbell occurred at his home at Colton, S. D., on Dec. 31, 1927, following an attack of the flu. Deceased was reared on a farm near Volney, where his parents were pioneer residents. His wife was Miss Jessie Jenkins, who met a tragic death in Yellow River when floating ice in the spring of 1901 crowded the team into the current of the swollen river. Later he married Miss Carrie Cunningham of Monona, and they moved to Daokota, where they had since made their home.
