Mrs. RAY R. (Ruth Lillian Brooks) DOUGLASS 1893-1983
Funeral services for Ruth Douglass were held Monday, Nov. 7, 1983 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Reverend Dennis E. Morey officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Ruth Lillian Douglass, daughter of Webb and Emma (Laughlin) Brooks, was born Dec. 3, 1893 at Sibley. She died Nov. 3, 1983 at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.
She attended grade school in Cresco and was graduated from High School at Glenwood. She attended the University of Iowa where she was affiliated with Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. For three years she was the Librarian at the Carnegie Library in Glenwood.
She was married to Ray R. Douglass Feb. 14, 1920. To this union two daughters were born. They made their home in Postville where her husband operated the Douglass Pharmacy. He had been the second generation of his family in the business which had been in existence for 98 years.
Ruth was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and the U. P. W., a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary, the P. E. O. Chapter FT, and the D. A. R and a 50 year member of the Postville Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died Jan. 22, 1970, and two brothers, Vance and Keith.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty May (Mrs. Jay Jansen), Indio, CA, and Darlene Ruth Couto, Hampton, VA; two grandsons, Edward D. Couto, Jr., Postville, and Captain C. Douglass Couto, Jr., Springfield, WA; and several nephews and nieces.
