Mrs. HARVEY (Dorothy Herrick) DOUGLASS 1893-1980
Services for Dorothy Douglass, 87, were held Sunday, Nov. 9, 1980 at 2:30 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. The Rev. Dennis E. Morey officiated, assisted by the Rev. Dick F. Harberts. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Dorothy Douglass, daughter of John D. and Della (Richardson) Herrick, was born Sept. 2, 1893 at Fredericksburg, Iowa. She died Nov. 1, 1980 at Omaha, Nebraska.
She graduated from the Fredericksburg Public Schools and Upper Iowa University. She taught in Greeley, Iowa, before coming to Postville in 1922 as a high school English teacher and principal. May 29, 1925 she was married to Harvey Douglass.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers: Harry, Ben and Lorimer Herrick; and a sister, Elizabeth Noon.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Novato, California; three daughters: Mrs. John (Ann) Kochenderfer, Bellevue, Nebraska; Mrs. Julius (Jean) Lauderdale, Chevy Chase, Maryland; Mrs. Kenneth (Diane) Moore, Anchorage, Alaska; and sixteen grandchildren.
Throughout her life she was an active church and community member. She organized the social service program at the Community Presbyterian Church from holiday baskets to the point, where, for many years, the rummage sales provided health, dental, and medical care and clothing for people in the area. She was also a member of P. E. O., Eastern Star and various community clubs.
